You mustn’t be afraid to dream a little bigger, darling.”
Darling Chic Eats Founder Darla has volunteered with First Book for the past seven years. When she was an elementary reading teacher in New Orleans she realized how many hardworking teachers in low-income schools are often strapped for resources and in her case, high quality, brand new books for students. Led by a spirit of volunteerism and passion for creating a more equitable education system, Darla joined First Book’s Greater New Orleans board in order to get more hands in the books of kids by awarding book grants to teachers and nonprofits serving children in need.
After moving to Washington, D.C., Darla realized there wasn’t a local First Book volunteer team here and launched Team First Book-DC in 2011. As the chair, she’s led a passionate group of volunteers in raising funds and awarding over a half million books to the children in the District of Columbia. When you support Darling Chic Eats, you also join hands with Darla in providing brand new, high-quality books to the most vulnerable children in DC. A portion of the proceeds from Darling Chic Eats will be donated each year to Team First Book-DC.
